The social cost of methane

Submitted by Petra Hansson on

AbstractA rapid and sustained reduction of methane emissions has been proposed recently as a key strategy to meet the climate targets of the Paris Agreement. The social cost of methane (SCM), which expresses the climate damage cost associated with an additional metric ton of methane emitted, is a metric that can be used to design policies to reduce the emissions of this gas.

Sustainable Energy Transitions - brief actionable research agenda

Submitted by Petra Hansson on

Sustainable Energy Transitions, with emphasis on gendered and intersectional aspects, lies at the core of a low carbon society. The implications of energy interventions, policies, and transitions is part of a larger initiative to identify the most promising research issues to support an actionable low-carbon transition in the Global South. Aim: There is an urgent need to identify ways to overcome the challenges to inclusive and sustainable energy access in developing countries, so that a low-carbon transition will improve outcomes for women, youth, and other marginalized populations.

Understanding the nexus between forest dependence and willingness to pay for forest conservation: case of forest dependent households in Kenya

Submitted by Jane Nyawira Maina on

PurposeForests support human livelihoods and mitigate against climate change, yet they are at a risk of irreversible loss due to high degradation rates. The success of forest conservation mechanisms depends on involvement and support by forest dependent communities. In this paper, the authors assess forest dependent household's willingness to pay (WTP) labour or cash for a conservation programme seeking to restore degraded forestland in Mount Elgon Forest, Kenya.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 919 households in Mt Elgon forest reserve, Kenya.
