This document summarizes the governance analysis of bovine livestock NAMAs, or low-emission cattle farming initiatives, that are either underway or in formulation in LAC. It focuses on the legal and institutional frameworks and the key aspects related to stakeholder framework structure and design, associated with an effective and sustainable governance model. 

La Guía Paso a Paso está estructurada en dos bloques: Bloque 1: Este bloque contiene aspectos teóricos de la EC incluyendo (i) definición, principios y beneficios de la EC (ii) análisis de los vínculos de la EC con los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), (iii) análisis del ambiente habilitan y los retos más frecuentes para implementar la EC a nivel local, (iv) importancia de dar seguimiento y evaluar los avances, y (v) el papel que tienen los actores locales en la promoción y adopción de la EC. 

The Training Manual on Climate Smart Agriculture Practices for Belize is intended to be used by technicians and teams working within the Extension Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, the Environment, Sustainable Development and Immigration (MAFFESDI) of Belize, as well as personnel from both Agriculture and Cooperative Departments. Additionally, the manual can be used by technicians linked to producer organizations or agriculture research and development centers. 

Water quality amelioration is one of the key ecosystem services provided by forests in the catchment areas of water supply systems. In this study, we applied random effect models and the least absolute shrinkage and selection regression method of machine learning to South African panel data to estimate the causal effect of natural forest cover on municipalities’ water treatment cost. We controlled for a range of confounding covariates including other land cover variables including wetlands, plantation forests, grassland, woodland etc.

Abstract

Agricultural Land-Use Change (ALUC) is a major driver of global environmental change, not least via its direct impact on the sustainability and resilience of the rural economy. Its drivers are complex and have remained contentious, necessitating further empirical study. This study aims to derive context-specific evidence on the driving factors and effects of ALUC from different stakeholders’ perceptions. We carried out household surveys and participatory rural appraisal across Benue State, Nigeria.
