The EfD center at Makerere University (EfD-Mak Center) has unveiled its advisory board.
The board is chaired by Associate Professor Umar Kakumba, the Deputy Vice-chancellor, in charge of Academic Affairs at Makerere University.
Umar Kakumba said the board will advance the mission of transforming EfD-Mak into a center of excellence in environmental research, advocacy, and policy.
“Environmental degradation and vagaries of climate change have affected the economies of the world leading to poor agricultural production and several health challenges. We, therefore, want to demonstrate that research can avail solutions and policy interventions to help protect and safeguard our environment,” Umar Kakumba explained.
The board is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Water and Environment, National Environment Management Authority, National Planning Authority, Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries, Wakiso District Local Government, Parliament of Uganda, Advocates Coalition for Development and Environment, the Swedish Embassy, and the College of Business and Management Sciences. Professor Edward Bbaale the Director, EfD-Mak center, said the board is crucial to helping the center achieve its strategic objectives through strategic direction, resource mobilization, and general oversight of the secretariat functions.
Also in attendance was the Principal College of Business and Management Sciences, Associate Professor Eria Hisali. He encouraged the center to consider integrating the review of environmental policies as a sustainability measure.
