EfD Uganda organized a training-of-trainers workshop as the final activity for the pioneer group av participants in the Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) program, the so-called IGE Fellows of 2021. This was an occasion to share lessons learned and the conclusions from the National Policy Reviews with the new cohort, the IGE Fellows of 2022.
The blended workshop was, among others, attended by the IGE program leader from the EfD Global Hub at the University of Gothenburg Sweden, Professor Anders Ekbom, and the co-program leader Emelie César. Graduate students from Makerere University were also invited.
The pioneer fellows were trained online due to COVID 19, except for a workshop in Uganda where all participating countries joined to present their national environmental and natural resources-related policies. The new group will benefit from the opportunity to meet in person and a hybrid format.
“The group of 2021 did a review of all existing IGE-related policies within the forestry, urbanization, energy, and the agricultural sector in Uganda, and today they shared what they have learned with the new fellows,” said Peter Babyenda Policy Engagement Specialist at EfD Uganda.
The Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) in practice is a capacity development program for senior civil servants and policymakers. It’s aimed at strengthening capacities at three levels: individual, organizational, and national system levels.
Racheal Nabasirye is one of the new IGE fellows and works with the National Planning Authority as a planner for policy research and innovation. She is looking forward to attending the program.
“The IGE workshop was very insightful. I learned a lot about how we can make our economy green in different sectors, such as agriculture and transportation. We also need to push it to the private sector being one of the major players and to strengthen our institutions to further this course,” she said.
