Abstract
Waste is a significant environmental issue on a global scale, and it is closely related to human growth on all fronts, socially, economically, and technologically. The composition of various wastes has changed over time and location, with waste products being directly related to industrial development and innovation. This chapter discusses the concept of waste, waste sources, solid waste, its nature and environmental impact, electrical/electronic waste (e-waste), including the concept of why e-waste is an environmental and health problem, trending options in e-waste management, and how hazardous waste can be controlled through the use of legal instruments. The focus is on the use of both international and national legal instruments in the management of waste, especially the hazardous types.
