Anders Ekbom, from Sida Helpdesk for Environmental Economics, participates in a panel discussion on this year’s Global Monitoring Report, when the report is presented by the World Bank at Sida in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday 25 April.
The World Bank presents Global Monitoring Report 2008: MDGs and the Environment - Agenda for Inclusive and Sustainable Development Are we taking steps forward to reach the Millennium Development Goals? This year’s Global Monitoring Report from the World Bank and IMF, the International Monetary Fund, assesses whether progress to ensure environmental sustainability – MDG 7 – has been made.
The report is presented and discussed at Sida, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, in Stockholm on Friday, 25 April. The presentation is made by Zia Qureshi, Senior Adviser in the Office of the Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of the World Bank, and Kirk Hamilton, Lead Environmental Economist and Team Leader, Policy and Economics, Environment Department, World Bank.
Anders Ekbom from EfD Sweden and Sida Helpdesk for Environmental Economics, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, participates in a panel discussion.
Though much of the world is set to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015, prospects are gravest for the goals of reducing child and maternal mortality. Serious shortfalls are also likely in primary school completion, nutrition, and sanitation goals.
The report also stresses the link between environment and development and calls for urgent action on climate change. To build on hard-won gains, developing countries need support to address the links between growth, development and environmental sustainability.
