RESEARCH OFFICER/RESEARCHER pdf versionREF NR E 352 1314/08 At the Department of Economics, Environmental Economics Unit The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg hereby announces a position as research officer/researcher at the Department of Economics, Environmental Economics Unit. The position is a full time position, to be filled as soon as possible and until December 2009. Although the position is linked to a specific project, there are excellent chances of having the position extended provided that the project is extended. The Environmental Economics Unit (EEU) has had a Sida-supported capacity building programme in environmental economics since 1991. As an extension of this programme, a new Sida-funded programme – the “Environment for Development” programme – was launched in 2007. The main components of the new initiative are support for environmental economics centers in six countries and thematic research together with these centers. Coordination of the initiative takes place at EEU and in close collaboration with the existing Sida-funded capacity building programme.
Tasks The research officer will act as advisor in developing research proposals for poverty-oriented environmental economics research in developing countries. The research officer will also evaluate submitted research proposals. Once research projects are finished, the research officer will be responsible for the academic evaluation of the research outputs. As part of this, the research officer will be responsible for the programme’s working paper series. Since the initiative is still in the process of being set up, there are also numerous short term tasks related to research administration which the research officer will be expected to handle. In order to carry out this work, it is important that the research officer is active in research on environmental and poverty related issues in developing countries. The research officer will therefore be expected to carry out such research within the scope of the position.
Desired qualifications Desired qualifications are a PhD in economics oriented towards environment and development, experience with environmental economics capacity building, and experience of research in developing countries. An interest in environmental issues is important. Considerable weight will be attached to personal suitability and ability to cooperate with others.
