The media, representatives from environment ministry and agencies attend ENRRI round table discussion on managing plastic waste in Ghana

A round table discussion on the theme “Managing Plastic Waste in Ghana” was held 3rd December at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre, Accra. It featured a presentation from ENRRI fellow Dr Kwami Adanu on the topic: Managing Plastic Waste in Ghana: The Role of a Supported Plastic Waste Market. The presentation made the case for the development of a plastic waste market supported by incineration as an effective approach to help improve plastic waste management, while creating jobs.

The presentation was followed by an engaging and productive discussion session, moderated by ENRRI fellow Prof Anthony Amoah, which generated interesting new insights and lessons.

Among those in attendance were stakeholders from the environment and waste management sectors, notably the Chief Director, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI); the Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, MESTI; representatives from Zoomlion (a private waste management company); representatives from municipal assemblies and academia. Also present were media representatives who interviewed speakers and participants and reported on the key messages drawn from discussions.

The event was also a useful learning and networking opportunity for ENRRI as it provides the center an opportunity to align its priorities with MESTI and allied agencies to promote long-term engagement.
