The Chilean Society of Regional Studies (SOCHER) active fellows has elected Mauricio Oyarzo, Associate Professor at the School of Business and Administration of the University of Concepción (UdeC) and researcher of EfD Chile, as the president to lead the association during 2023 and 2024.
SOCHER was created in 2006 with the objective of promoting the generation of multi and interdisciplinary scientific knowledge in Chile’s regions. It is a broad and diverse group that undertakes studies in all scientific areas and focuses on territorial issues. SOCHER has brought together researchers from various disciplines in several meetings over the years and in different locations of the country
Aims to increase impact
Mauricio Oyarzo has participated actively in SOCHER since 2014, facilitating workshops and presenting in regular sessions. He was a member of the board as vice president in 2021-2022.
His role as president will consist of managing and representing SOCHER, providing guidance for future meetings and activities with the scientific community of the regional science field.
“My personal objective is to work on the regularization of processes that are pending with the Ministry of Economy and increasing the visibility and the impact of the Society in on public policies in the country," said Mauricio Oyarzo.
Upcoming meetings of SOCHER
The XXIII SOCHER Meeting will be held on November 2023 in Valdivia in Southern Chile, while the SOCHER Meeting in 2024 will be held in Universidad de Concepción campus Chillán, the host institution of the EfD Chile center.
