The Annual World Bank Conference on land and poverty took place in Washington DC, USA on March 14-18. This year´s theme was: Scaling up responsible land governance.
EfD was well represented during the event by Gunnar Köhlin, Jintao Xu, YuanYuan Yi, Haileselassie Medhin and Randy Bluffstone among other researchers with strong links to our network. In the session called Research on Land Use Planning and Community Rights Chaired by Köhlin, both Yi and Medhin presented EfD-related work. Köhlin also presented the EfD network in his presentation titled Perspective of a research Institute in the session called Strengthening Capacity for Implementing Land Policies in Africa. Köhlin also presented during the session called New Initiatives in Land Research and Evidence Based Land Policies. Medhin chaired the session called Research on Land Tenure Security and Livelihoods.
2016 was the 17th year, the annual World Bank conference on land and poverty brought together key stakeholders from governments, civil society, academia, the development community, and the private sector to discuss land policy design and implementation, impact evaluation and progress monitoring, and the latest research on these issues. This year’s conference paid special attention to working at scale, mainstreaming innovations, and sustaining investments in land governance. Conference participants discussed what can be done to guarantee inclusiveness, sustainability, and reliability, build capacity, and ensure that better land information and more tenure security contribute to wider societal objectives and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
