Meet Dr Mo Ibrahim, star entrepreneur and founder of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, who will provide an overview of the causes and effects of military coups and increasing internal conflicts in the Sahel region, Africa.

In recent times, several African states in the Sahel region have been targeted for military coups and increasing internal conflicts. Dr Mo Ibrahim will provide an overview of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation’s groundbreaking activities, in particular the causes and effects of these recent developments.

Mo Ibrahim

Dr Mo Ibrahim is the Founder of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation which plays an important role in supporting good governance and exceptional leadership on the African continent to the benefit of the quality of life of African citizens. The Foundation focuses on defining, assessing, and enhancing governance and leadership through a series of concrete initiatives, such as the establishment of an Index of African Governance and the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership.

In addition to his work with the foundation, Dr Mo Ibrahim has a long and prestigious business career. He founded the cellular consulting and software provider Mobile Systems International (MSI), the pioneering mobile telephone company Celtel International, and Satya Capital Limited, a private investment firm primarily focused on Africa. He is also Co-founder and Co-chair of the Africa Europe Foundation, launched to reset and bolster Africa-Europe relations.

He has received numerous honorary degrees and fellowships from a range of prestigious academic institutions, as well as multiple noteworthy awards. In 2023, Dr Mo Ibrahim was awarded the honor of the Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) for his services to charity and philanthropy.

KAPTalks - Kapuscinski Development Lectures
Top global thinkers discuss development in the European Union countries and beyond. The series “Kapuscinski Development Lectures”, named for Ryszard Kapuscinski, a Polish reporter, and writer who covered developing countries, is organized jointly by the European Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, and partner universities and development think tanks. Over 150 lectures gathered since 2009 over 50,000 participants.
