EfD aims to generate new and useful knowledge, through rigorous policy-relevant research, in the fields of poverty, the environment, natural resources, and climate change.
The Research Committee oversees the creation and excellence in quality of three strands of policy-relevant research:
- Applied research capacity for sub-Sahara African centers: Earmarked research funds for new centers and centers from the least developed countries in SSA (Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, and Nigeria). Support for these centers to create required research capacity as well as address pressing poverty-environmental issues in these countries. The proposed research should focus on the countries listed above.
- Multi-country & synthesis studies on poverty-gender relevant environmental research: Funds earmarked for any research relating to poverty (and/or gender) and the environment in the least developed countries. This funding is open to all centers in the Global South, preferably in partnership with centers in the least developed countries in (1) above. This research needs to have possibilities for “policy transfers” from middle-income countries to the least developed countries.
- Specific research projects within EfD’s collaborative programs.
Toward these ends, the Research Committee oversees:
- EfD’s research strategy;
- The EfD Research Fund;
- The management of the research process (including quality assurance for proposals and research outputs);
- Professional development for EfD Research Fellows and Senior Research Fellows.
The Research Committee also reviews the submissions for the Peter Berck's Best Discussion Paper Award.
The Research Committee is chaired by Professor Vic Adamowicz. Members are nominated by the EfD centers and appointed by the EfD Board. You can see the distinguished members here.
