Patiño-Echeverri, Dalia
Dalia Patiño-Echeverri is the Gendell Associate Professor of Energy Systems and Public Policy at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University where she explores, assesses, and proposes technological, policy, and market approaches to contribute to the goal of striking a balance between environmental sustainability, affordability, and reliability in electricity systems.
Much of the work of her research group focuses on the decisions that policy makers, private companies, and citizens face regarding capital investments in electricity infrastructure, and in the methods available to analyze and improve these decisions. The models developed by this group integrate the tools of operations research and engineering to account for the risk and uncertainty that permeate policy, investment, and operational choices, and to consider the value of maintaining flexibility in several dimensions.
Patino-Echeverri is also adjunct associate professor at the Engineering and Public Policy Department at Carnegie Mellon University and co-principal investigator of the NSF Center for Climate and Energy Decision Making. She received B.S. and M.Sc. degrees in Industrial Engineering from University of The Andes, Bogotá, Colombia and the PhD degree in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. During the 2018-2019 academic year, Professor Patino-Echeverri will be visiting Duke Kunshan University in China where she will continue a project to characterize the uncertainty on future electricity demand in China, and studying regulatory and market design options for the Chinese electric power sector.
