Nzeadibe, Thaddeus Chidi

Chidi Nzeadibe is Professor of Environmental Management & Sustainability, Head, Department of Geography, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre (REPRC), University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He previously served as Associate Dean and Acting Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Chidi obtained a PhD in Environmental Management and serves as postgraduate External Examiner to some African and UK universities. He is the Coordinator of the Waste & Resource Management Research Group (WARMREG), University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a Visiting Researcher at the DSI/NRF/CSIR Chair in Waste and Society, University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. Chidi is the Focal Point for UNN - The Conversation Africa (TC-Africa), a position in which he facilitates the dissemination of information, publication training and publishing of articles of UNN researchers in TC-Africa. He is the winner, for two consecutive years, of the TC-Africa Annual West Africa Science Communication Award.

Research interest

Chidi’s research interest revolves around the broad themes of environmental management and sustainability. He has specifically focused on sustainable environmental management, environmental and social impact assessment, corporate-community engagement, climate change awareness and adaptation, vulnerability to flood risk, political ecology, solid waste management in urban governance, Waste picking and Informal recycling economy,  cities and pandemics, food systems sustainability, gender analysis and anticorruption in the education sector.

 Mentoring (PhD students and masters)

Chidi is currently supervising some PhD and M.Sc students in the Department of Geography, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. As the Postgraduate Representative of the Faculty of the Social Sciences to the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he was central to implementing quality assurance regimes and facilitating timely completion of M.Sc and PhD programmes in the nine (9) Departments of the Faculty.  He is currently a key member of the Research Directorate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka saddled with responsibility for policymaking and capacity building of researchers and postgraduate students of the university.  He currently serves as the LOC Chair of the Annual Multidisciplinary International Conference of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka which offers veritable opportunities to early career scholars, PhD and masters students from all faculties of the university and beyond to present their research at an international conference.
