Mulwa, Chalmers
Dr. Chalmers Kyalo Mulwa has a PhD in Economics from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 2020. His research focuses on Agri-environmental Economics with sound knowledge of technology adoption studies and scaling, agri-food systems analysis, and impact assessments. In these areas, he has over 10 years of experience on research and development.
Currently, Dr. Chalmers is a Social Scientist at the International Potato Center (CIP) based in the sub-Saharan Africa regional office in Nairobi tasked with identifying social science research priorities related to human and institutional behavior in the context of agri-food system change and developing and implementing research strategies for addressing these. Previously, Dr. Chalmers worked at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT), the International Potato Center (CIP), and the Environmental Policy Research Unit (EPRU) at the school of Economics of the University of Cape Town.
His research interests revolve around understanding the impact of agricultural interventions on the welfare of farming households as well as the environment and identifying gender gaps and fostering inclusivity in agricultural development.
Dr. Chalmers has a growing list of publications in high impact journals. He also has experience in fundraising having won funding for a number of projects.
