Job assignments
The job assignments are primarily focused on teaching economics at undergraduate and advanced level as well as research. The position may also involve teaching statistics on the undergraduate level. The employment also includes supervision of theses at undergraduate and advanced level, participation in course development as well as pedagogical development work, own competence development, contacts and collaboration with the surrounding community and administrative work in addition to course administration.
This employment may involve teaching in both Swedish and English. This means that the successful candidate should be prepared to teach in Swedish in the future, but it is not a requirement when taking up the position.
Those who are employed as Senior Lecturers are expected to be present at the department and actively participate in the teaching and research environment.
Eligibility
Qualification for the employment of teaching staff is set forth in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, GU 2022/2359 and the University of Gothenburg's own appointments procedure and the Appointment Regulations for Teaching Staff at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, GU 2022/2410.
Eligible for employment as a Senior Lecturer in Economics is a person who has completed a doctoral degree in economics or has the equivalent competence, undergone higher education pedagogical training or has corresponding competence and has shown pedagogical skills.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for employment as a lecturer are set out in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, GU 2022/2359 and in the University of Gothenburg’s own appointments procedure and the Appointment Regulations for Teaching Staff at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, GU 2022/2410.
Teaching economics rests on a scientific basis. Familiarity with current research is therefore a requirement. High quality research and pedagogical skills in economics are the most important evaluation criteria. It is a great advantage if the research merits are connected to one or several of the department's strongest research areas, i.e. labor market economics, behavioral economics, health economics, environmental economics and development economics.
Ongoing research with the potential to be published in highly ranked journals in economics is also a requirement. The quality of current unpublished manuscripts will therefore also be evaluated. International experience and international research collaboration are advantageous.
Assessment of pedagogical skills refers to planning, implementation, and evaluation of teaching, as well as supervision, examination, course development and course responsibility in economics. Experience and skill in academic teaching in economics must be well documented.
It is meritorious to have documented ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and develop relevant teaching both independently and through collaboration with others, especially in areas directly related to the employment's main tasks, as well as ability to conduct pedagogical development work.
Emphasis will also be placed on administrative skills as well as on the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work.
The applicant that will be selected is the one who, after an overall assessment of skill and development potential, is judged to have the best qualifications to carry out the tasks included in the employment and contribute to a positive development of the department.
