Funded by the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), this four-year $1 million project aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of REDD+ policy in MesoAmerica by developing two sets of decision tools.
The first is a user-friendly, web accessible mapping tool for targeting forest conservation policies so as to maximize the conservation “bang-for-the-buck.” The second is a “tool-kit” for evaluating the effectiveness of forest conservation policies, including a how-to manual, an extensive data base, and a set of case studies. RFF researchers include Allen Blackman (Director), Juha Siikamaki, Len Goff and Jessica Chu. Matt Hansen and colleagues at the University of Maryland are contributing fine-scale forest cover change data. The project began in 2012 and is scheduled to end in 2016.
