Evaluating Forest Stewardship Council certification in Mexico

Start date

Funded by the Tinker Foundation and Rainforest Alliance, this three-year collaboration with the Mexican Environment Ministry aims to measure the effect of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest certification on illegal deforestation in Mexico.

It uses fine scale satellite data on deforestation along with detailed data on forestry permits and certification corrective action requests. RFF researchers are Allen Blackman (Director) and Len Goff. The project began in 2011 and will end in 2014.
