ECRC/EDRI together with the International Energy Agency (IEA) organized a half day workshop for Ethiopia Launch of the IEA’s report entitled “Boosting the Power Sector in Sub-Saharan Africa: China’s Involvement” on 20 September 2016 at the intercontinental Addis Hotel in Addis Ababa.
The report launched analyzes China’s involvement in the sub-Saharan Africa power sector, including the key drivers underlying Chinese investments. It identifies the key Chinese stakeholders and assesses their impact on policies affecting energy access, economic development and financing modalities. Two case studies examine Chinese investment at the country level in Ghana and Ethiopia.
The lead author of the report David Benazeraf, presented the impact of key Chinese stakeholders on policies affecting energy access, economic development and financing modalities focusing on the Ethiopian Case study.
Panelists from Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Africa Union, World Resource Institute (WRI), Chinese embassy and a representative from China (CAMC) engineering reflected on the report.
