EfD’s Annual Meeting in 2024 will be a joint event with AFAERE

EfD’s Annual Meeting in October will, as usual, feature keynote speakers, parallel sessions with research presentations, training sessions, a policy day, and other events. An exciting novelty is that this year it will be a joint event with the African Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AFAERE).

In addition to its regular program, the meeting will feature AFAERE focus sessions, AFAERE keynotes, and paper presentations by AFAERE members, which will be open to all meeting participants.

Some AFAERE members are also EfD researchers, but AFAERE embraces all of Africa (although not so much in North Africa yet), adding a broader geographical scope to the meeting.

Opens doors to global cooperation

EfD Nigeria’s Center Director, Nnaemeka Chukwuone, is also the President of AFAERE. He sees many synergies in combining the two organization’s meetings and increasing the reach of both.

“I’m very excited about this joint event. This will give more visibility to AFAERE and open doors to more global collaborations,” he said.

“EfD and AFAERE have the same goals: We unite environmental economists and strive to make the use of natural resources more efficiently, reducing poverty and helping policymakers implement policies for sustainability,” he added.

EfD Director, Gunnar Köhlin, is also excited about this collaboration.

“The EfD Annual Meetings have evolved to become the biggest and best academic conferences in environmental economics in the Global South. It's therefore natural that we collaborate with the regional academic associations to organize them. In the case of Africa, the two constituencies also overlap to a large extent,” he said.
