EfD Tanzania project winner “Utilization of Research results for Improved Livelihood”

The University of Dar es Salaam organized a Research Week exhibition that was held in March 2015. This was organized in order to increase visibility of the output of UDSM academic staff in the area of research and its contribution in solving national problems.  The event was the first of its kind as each unit participated.  It was organized at two levels; namely unit (Colleges/Schools/Institutes) level and university level. The theme of research week was “Utilization of Research Results for Improved Livelihood”.

EfD Tanzania was among 39 winner’s project and 8 high profile projects from invited researchers at the University level exhibition. EfD Tanzania project within the Department of Economics was a 3rd winner’s position at the level of College of Social Sciences of University of Dar es Salaam. In the course of policy interaction, the  general  public,  external  stakeholders  and  development  partners  were  invited  to  the  event.  Advertisements were placed in local newspapers and the university website to inform the public on the event.

The exhibition materials were expected to come from the research work undertaken by UDSM students of staffs working primarily in Tanzania with local or international collaborators. Also the exhibition materials consider research results from donor funded research projects undertaken by individual academics groups or in collaboration with post graduate students and research assistants; the materials need to be innovative/research works as well as all research results already transferred to stakeholders etc.  EfD Tanzania had opportunity to display material such as annual reports, policy briefs, journal /conference papers and proceedings of the workshops obtained from policy interaction workshops and dissemination seminars.  The output from EfD Tanzania displays good contribution towards of the project towards utilization of research results for improved livelihood.

In connection with the University exhibition, EfD Tanzania outputs became avenue for EfD Tanzania to officially participate in the Dar es Salaam international trade fair know as famous known as SABASABA organized first week of July every year.  The Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (SABASABA) have established itself over years as the Exhibition and shop window for Tanzania products as well as the East, Central and the Southern African Region. The Trade Fair acts as one stop centre for reaching countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Botswana.  The Trade Fair last for 10 days and enjoys the patronage of the Tanzania business community who both exhibit and use it as a forum for business exchange. In this case EfD Tanzania had opportunity display its outputs such as policy briefs, research briefs, EfD Tanzania discussion papers, annual reports and EfD Tanzania Stories was distributed. Other printed materials were the books of Forest Tenure reform in Africa and Asia. Among the people picked interest with the EfD Tanzania displayed materials was the Acting Chancellor, University of Dar es Salaam Ambassador, Nicholas Kuhanga (Picture below Rose T. was giving more information to the Ambassador)
