EfD research helps villagers save Tanzania’s forests

The Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ezekiel Maige, recently underscored the need for people living around forest reserves to be empowered with forest management skills. Researchers at Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT), an initiative based at the Department of Economics at the University of Dar es Salaam, have identified a number of critical areas that will help both to protect Tanzania’s forests and the livelihoods of those villagers living close to the forests.

On February 20 2009 EfDT gave their contribution through news reporters and issued a press release in reacting to the recently call by the Ministry of Natural Resource and Tourism to empower people living around forest reserves with forest Management skills. The daily newspaper ThisDay 2009. 02. 23 reported the suggestions and recommendations given by the EfDT researches.

Another news was also reported in a Swahili daily paper Mwananchi of 2009. 03. 09, conserning  the work done by EfDT researchers which explaining the importance of caring the forests
