EfD contributes to Tanzania Country Environmental Analysis

On May 6th, 2019 the World Bank together with the Vice President’s office launched the Tanzania Country Environmental Analysis at the Hyatt hotel in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.

The launch was attended by stakeholders from embassies, academia, government ministries and private sector. The launch was officiated by the H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Vice President of Tanzania. The opening remarks were provided by Hon. Min. January Makamba, Minister of State for Union Affairs and the Environment, Vice President’s Office and Bella Bird, World bank’s Country Director for Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi and Somalia, World Bank.

The Country Environmental Analysis shows the trends in the Tanzania’s environment, highlighting strategic key issues with the aim of feeding towards policy dialogue. The opening remarks were followed by key findings from the report, and thereafter a high-level open panel discussion was followed. The high panel included Hon. Min. January Makamba, Minister of State for Union Affairs and the Environment, Vice President’s Office; Bella Bird, World Bank’s Country Director for Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi and Somalia and Prof. Razack Lokina, Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT), Department of Economics, University of Dar es Salaam.

The report was a joint partnership between the World Bank, Government of Tanzania, Embassy of Sweden, and Environment for Development initiative (EfD) researchers. Prof. Razack Lokina, Remidius Ruhinduka, Byela Tibesigwa, and Martin Chegere from center for Environment for Development Tanzania (EfDT), Department of Economics, University of Dar es Salaam. Gunnar Köhlin and Haileselassie Medhin from Environment for Development (EfD), School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg.
