Zeleke, Gete

Dr Gete Zeleke is a research associate of University of Bern, Switzerland working in Addis as a director and project leader. He has over 20 years of professional experience from working in natural resources management and rural development in Ethiopia and the region. He has had a number of assignments as African coordinator at the Global Mountain Programme (GMP) in CGIAR, director general for NRM Research within ARARI and head of the Soil and Water Conservation Division at the Amhara Regional Bureau of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

He has worked at EfD Ethiopia as a senior research fellow on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) project from September, 2005 to February, 2006. He has led a nationwide study on stakeholders analysis for SLM in Ethiopia in collaboration with IFPRI. The study raised many pertinent issues related to SLM in the country and was instrumental for the formulation of the multi‐donor initiative Country Partnership Program for Sustainable Land Management (CPP‐SLM). During his stay at EfD Ethiopia, he also led the Cost Benefit Framework (CBF) study for land degradation and applying SLM practices for Ethiopia. Ethiopia was a pilot country for this initiative and the result of the study was expected to be used to formulate similar frameworks in the rest of Sub Saharan Countries (SSC).
