Yohannes, Dereje
Dereje Yohannes is a lecturer at Addis Ababa University, Department of Economics. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. study in Economics, enrolled in a collaborative Ph.D. program between the University of Gothenburg and Addis Ababa University. He has a BA (2006) and MSc (2011) degree in Economics from Mekele University.
His main research areas are Development Economics and Behavioral Economics. In his PhD research, he has looked at the long-run impact of rainfall shocks on child labor focusing on the role of a large public works program and credit markets in mediating the impact; the origin of human capital formation on the role of early life extreme weather events on human capital outcomes (cognitive skills, non-cognitive skills and health) during childhood and adolescence, and the long-run impact of the early life weather shocks on young adults’ labor income in Ethiopia.
