Musembi, Elly

Elly Musembi serves as the Data Manager and a junior research fellow at EfD-Kenya, a role he has distinguishably fulfilled since 2019. He holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in economics and development studies from the University of Nairobi and is pursuing his PhD in Economics. Elly's research focus spans multiple domains, including renewable energy, energy transitions, agriculture, climate change (covering topics like carbon farming, carbon tax in the agricultural sector, climate-smart farming), circular economy, and rural poverty.

He has played a pivotal role in several transformative projects, such as Electric Cooking in the Energy Transition: How Much Subsidization is Needed?, Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Services Mapping and Valuation in Six Coastal Counties in Kenya, and Generating Insights into the National Climate and Health Policy Ecosystem to Drive Climate Action, Incorporating Just Transitions in Kenya's Low-Carbon Economy Development,  among many others.

In addition, Elly’s work explores innovative solutions to critical challenges, such as the gendered time-use benefits of improved cooking solutions, mobilizing private sector investment for community-based climate adaptation, and assessing wastewater disposal practices and treatment costs in Kenya. His commitment to evidence-based policy and his interdisciplinary expertise positions him as a key figure in driving impactful research and sustainable development outcomes across Kenya and beyond.
