Carson, Richard

Richard Carson is Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego and Research Professor at the Institute for Choice at the University of South Australia. He received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 1985. Carson is past President and an elected Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Association of Agricultural and Applied Economics. Previously he served as Research Director for International Environmental Policy at the University of California’s Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. Carson works on a wide range of environmental economics and econometric issues with a particular emphasis on the valuation of nonmarketed and new goods and forecasting pollution. He has served as principal investigator on several major projects including the benefit assessment of the U.S. Clean Water Act and the damage assessment for the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Carson is the author of over a hundred published papers and the author or editor of seven books.
