Bishal Bharadwaj currently serves as a Research Fellow at the Curtin Institute of Energy Transition, where he leads the dynamic Energy and Development theme. Bishal holds an MSc in Climate Change from UCL and a PhD from the University of Queensland. Before moving to Curtin, Bishal worked as postdoctoral research fellow at Net Zero Australia project. Prior to his affiliation with Curtin University, Bishal played pivotal roles in management, consulting, and research capacities for over fifteen years. Notably, Bishal's strong commitment to public service is highlighted through his decade-long tenure with the Government of Nepal, where he held various positions, including the Environmental Management Service at the Ministry of Local Development.

Research interests

Bishal is a quantitative economic geographer by orientation who is interested in evaluating environmental policies (energy, plastic, pollution and climate change) in heterogeneous context to identify strategies to make sure the policies are effective and equitable. He is interested in investigating the welfare impact of environmental and development policies at household and among marginalized communities. Bishal is currently involved in estimating the effect of ecotourism on energy demand and time allocation in the remote Himalaya, estimating the effect of lending rate on solar capacity in Bangladesh and investigtatign the peace dividend on clean energy transition in Nepal.
