Ahmed, Abdiaziz

Abdiaziz Ahmed is a PhD candidate in Economics at the School of Economics, University of Cape Town. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi.

Abdiaziz has been awarded research grants from esteemed institutions such as the International Growth Center (IGC), the National Research Fund (NRF) in South Africa, UN Women-Kenya, the University of Nairobi, and the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (JPAL) Africa, which have supported his academic and research endeavors. He has participated in various technical workshops, summer schools, and international conferences to present his research.

His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Economic Statistics, Mathematics for Economists, Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, and Econometrics. Abdiaziz’s research primarily focuses on Gender and Development Economics, Natural Resources Economics, and Impact Evaluation. He has also worked as a consultant for organizations including Research ICT Africa (RIA), the Southern Africa Labour & Development Research Unit (SALDRU), and JPAL Africa.

Research Interests

Water, human capital (health, education, and labour), climate change, energy, trade, and welfare economics.

Mentoring

He has mentored several Masters and Undergraduate Economics students at the University of Cape Town and the University of Nairobi.
