The Environment for Development (EfD) is a unit at the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg. EfD is a global network of environmental economics research centers primarily based in the Global South. The overall objective of EfD is to support poverty alleviation and sustainable development by building environmental economics’ capacity for policy-making processes. The EfD Initiative has centers hosted by academic institutions in Central America, Chile, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Sweden, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, the US, and Vietnam.

EfD was launched in 2007 by the Environmental Economics Unit at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, Sweden. EfD continues to work in close partnership with the Department of Economics, which has around 100 employees and 800 students. The collaboration is particularly strong with the research groups in environmental, behavioral and development economics.

With around 3 700 full-time equivalent students, 500 employees and 160 international partner universities, the main subjects of economics and law, and its four departments, the School of Business, Economics and Law offers a unique range. The School also provides unique collaborations with industry and the public sector. The School of Business, Economics and Law is EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA accredited, making it the only business school in Sweden with Triple Crown accreditation.

Job assignments

  • Processing and quality control of data and metadata from surveys and experiments to enable reuse of research material. Document research material based on the DDI metadata standard, and in conjunction with this, convert data.
  • Prepare working documents and procedures to preserve, organize, maintain and make available data material.
  • Publish and export metadata information to other organizations and systems, primarily through the EfD Data Access Unit on SND's portal.
  • Participate in the processing and analysis of data and systematic literature studies (systematic reviews) for the EfD unit's research.
  • Participate in the development of course material and provide advice for researchers within the EfD
  • Keeping up to date with international developments in the field of data management for social science research.

Qualifications

You have the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social or behavioral science.
  • Good knowledge of various metadata standards and data file formats used in documentation, accessibility and long-term preservation of research data in the social sciences.
  • Documented experience in managing data files of various formats and handling both cross-sectional data and longitudinal data.
  • Documented ability to independently use statistical methods to analyze data material.
  • Documented experience from work in or together with research environments focusing on databases and quantitative analysis.
  • Excellent knowledge of English in writing and speech.

Requirements are that the post holder will work with accuracy and flexibility, in combination with the ability to take responsibility. Ability to work independently is also important.

When recruiting, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The following skills, over and above the mentioned qualifications, are desirable for the position:

  • Project management skills.
  • Previous work experience in development assistance and an active interest in the environment and poverty reduction in the Global South.

Employment

The employment is a permanent position with an extent of 100 % of full time. The position is located at the Environment for Development, School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg. Starting date for the position is as soon as possible. Trial employment will be applied.
