Claudine Uwera, who holds a PhD from the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg, has been appointed Minister of State in charge of Economic planning in Rwanda.
The announcement about Uwera's appointment came from Rwanda's president Paul Kagame on Friday 6 April, according to Rwanda's daily newspaper The new Times. On Tuesday 10 April, the Swearing in Cermony of the new ministers was conducted as announced by Government of Rwanda.
"On behalf of the Department of Economics, I would like to congratulate Claudine Uwera on her new job, and wish her all the best in her future role for Rwanda” says Måns Söderbom, Head of Department at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. He also says that Uwera's appointment is one of many examples of students from low-income countries who, with a degree from University of Gothenburg, makes a difference in their home countries.
Claudine Uwera defended her thesis "Water Demand and Financing in Rwanda: An Empirical Analysis" at the University of Gothenburg in September 2013.
