Countries can move faster towards a carbon tax

On 13 November, Thomas Sterner and his American colleagues published the article "Policy sequencing toward decarburization", in the prestigious journal Nature Energy.

"This is a carefully nuanced article reasoning about the importance of timing the various economic instruments for a more climate-friendly policy. For example, subsidies for new technologies, such as solar and wind power, can be implemented before conditions for more efficient carbon taxation systems are in place. In the future, it may be possible for countries to move faster forwards when it comes to getting a higher price for carbon dioxide", says Sterner

The article is written together with Jonas Meckling, University of California and Gernot Wagner, Harvard University.
