EfD Ethiopia's Center Director Hailemariam Teklewold has passed away

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Hailemariam Teklewold, a distinguished Researcher in the field of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the FDRE Policy Studies Institute. Dr. Hailemariam had been a dedicated member of the Environmental and Climate Research Center for Ethiopia and was an accomplished scholar who had made significant contributions to his field.

Dr. Hailemariam received his Ph.D. in Economics from the Department of Economics at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Prior to this, he had completed his MSc and BSc degrees at the Department of Economics, Addis Ababa University. He was a specialist in the area of Agricultural Economics and was mainly involved in the Agriculture Thematic area of the center.

His research was focused on the economics of sustainable agricultural technologies, with a particular emphasis on climate-smart agricultural interventions. His work involved analyzing the determinants of the adoption of multiple sustainable agricultural practices and their impacts on household welfare, labor demand, production risk, and the environment in some African countries. He was also a renowned expert in the adoption and impact of agricultural technologies, farmers' risk and time preferences, and their implications on agricultural technologies adoption and resource allocation, as well as agricultural marketing and value chain analysis.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hailemariam was widely recognized for his expertise and dedication to his field. His research made significant contributions to the understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and their impact on economic development in Africa. He was respected for his ability to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and his research was frequently cited by other scholars and policymakers.

Dr. Hailemariam will be remembered as a diligent researcher who was passionate about his work and dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of farmers in Ethiopia and other countries in Africa. He will be deeply missed by his colleagues, friends, and the wider academic community. His contributions to the field of agricultural economics will continue to inspire future generations of researchers and policymakers.
