REPRC EfD Nigeria Inaugurates Policy Advisory Panel

In a bid to ensure that its activities are guided by experts’ opinion, the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre (REPRC), Environment for Development (EfD) Nigeria in October 17, 2019 inaugurated a Policy Advisory Panel (PAP) made of seasoned environmental scholars, professionals, policy makers and government officials.   

Members of the panel, chaired by Prof Emmanuel Oladipo, a renowned environmental scholar, included the Director of Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment; the Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Environment; the President, All Farmers Association of Nigeria; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Professor Chinedu Nwajiuba, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme University.  Other members of the panel included: Mr Joseph Akpokodje of the World Bank, Abuja; Mr Muyiwa Odele, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Abuja; Mrs Halima Bawa, Deputy Director Federal Ministry of Environment; Professor Eric Eboh and Professor Stellar Williams.

The panel inauguration was performed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration of the University of Nigeria, Professor Pat Okpoko who represented the Vice-Chancellor at a Policy Day outreach organized by the centre in Abuja.

Professor Okpoko charged the PAP members to help nurture the centre and facilitate the buy-in of its research outputs my policy makers and development agencies.  He said that the centre had the potentials to provide policy directions to the government on environmental matters through its researches, urging the panel members to use their expertise and positions to help the centre achieve its mandate.

In his reaction after the inauguration, Chairman of the panel, Professor Emmanuel Oladipo expressed his delight at the activities of the EfD Nigeria Centre, stating that the panel would do its best to ensure that the centre helps the government make the needed changes in Nigeria’s environmental policies.

Director of REPRC EfD Nigeria, Dr Nnaemeka Chukwuone  said that he was optimistic that with the expert advice from the PAP members; the support of the EfD and the University of Nigeria, the  REPRC would make desired impact in decision making processes at all levels in Nigeria and West African region”.
