EfD featured in BBC’s Story Works

EfD is delighted to be showcased in Aiming Higher, a production developed in partnership between the The International Association of Universities and BBC's Story Works Production.

Aiming Higher is a series of short films showing how universities and affiliated programs are shaping sustainable, democratic societies, and helping to tackle some of the biggest challenges those societies face. It highlights stories of university-related projects that contribute to sustainable development, leadership, and innovation.

EfD's film showcases work EfD researchers in Tanzania are doing to create a better understanding of the value ecosystems provide. Rapid deforestation in Tanzania poses a severe threat to the livelihoods of farmers, who rely on the “ecosystem services” that forests provide.  For example, Tanzania’s bee population is suffering due to habitat loss, and farmers rely heavily on bees to pollinate their crops. EfD’s “Ecosystem Services Accounting for Development”  Collaborative Program creates research that quantifies these “services” ecosystems provide, so policymakers can make decisions that factor in these important values – locally and globally.
