ECRC’s Yitatek Kelemu attended three weeks advanced training program on climate change - adaptation and mitigation from 19 November – 9 December 2016 at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) in Norrkoping, Sweden.
The program focused on how to integrate available climate information in to carry out sustainable adaptation measures, and places great emphasis on the end-user of climate information, as well as on technical and hands-on content. The three weeks training program had a climate change lecture series and site visits on adaptation measures taken by Sweden to combat climate change.
Participants developed “change projects” that they take to their home institutions to work on for 5 months to better address institutional challenges in climate knowledge sharing. Trainees are expected to make presentations of their findings in May 2017. Thirty participants from Kenya, Ethiopia and Rwanda participated in the East Africa Program.

The advanced international training program Climate Change - Mitigation and Adaptation is designed for decision makers in developing countries who hold positions in their home organization with mandate to initiate change on local to national level. Participants will access the latest research and development in their areas of work, be supervised by skilled Swedish colleagues and experts, develop a network of colleagues from other countries and enhance knowledge in new working methods. The program is supported by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA)
