LACEEP's XI Biannual Short Course.
The Latin American and Caribbean Environmental Economics
Program (LACEEP), partner of the EfD-CA Center, will
host its XI Biannual Short Course between April 8 and 10, 2011 at CATIE,
Turrialba, Costa Rica. This year the course will be on the Economics of ecosystem services and biodiversity and it will be taught
by Professor Stephen Polasky,
Fesler-Lampert Professor of Ecological/Environmental Economics at the University of Minnesota.
The course will cover issues on integrating economics and natural
science to value ecosystem services and biodiversity; landscapes modeling of ecosystem
services and biodiversity and bioeconomic modeling; policies for provision of ecosystem
services; and natural capital and Sustainable Development.
Polasky´s research interests include ecosystem services, natural
capital, biodiversity conservation, ecological and economic policy analysis,
renewable energy, environmental regulation, and common property resources. His
articles have been published in numerous journals. In 1986 Professor Polasky
received his PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan. He held faculty
positions in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at Oregon
State University (1993-1999) and the Department of Economics at Boston College
(1986-1993). Between 1998 and 1999 he was senior staff economist for
environment and resources for the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. He
was elected into the National Academy of Sciences in 2010.
