This research is part of the project "Bioenergy, Bioeconomy and Food Security", funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), "Research and policy advise on energy, food, water and land". The aim of the framework project is the evidence-based support of policy strategies for technological and institutional innovations of decentralized energy options in developing countries. In particular, research will focus on the topic of bioenergy as well as the relationship between energy and other components of the water-energy food safety nexus. In cooperation with the Center for Development Research (ZEF), RWI is investigating, in a partial research project, factors that promote the acceptance of new bioenergy-related technologies, in particular improved cooking standards, In rural Senegal. The main component of the study is an experimental analysis of whether the willingness to pay for improved cooking stoves and ultimately their acceptance by prior use experience is increased. The question of the ability to pay and the willingness to pay for improved cookery in developing countries is crucial to the achievement of the political goal set by the UN initiative "Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All)" to create universal access to modern cooking facilities by 2030.
