Land registration and certification in Ethiopia

The main objective of this project is to identify and analyze effects of land certification on land-related investments and rural land markets.

The project aims to adress the following major issues: How should land be administered? What are the issues that need improvement in the existing legal framework, that could lead to more efficient outcomes and improved welfare of farmers? What are the gender implications of the existing legal framework and what should be done in order to incorporate this dimension? Should urban and rural land have similar administration mechanisms? (This is particularly important in peri-urban places where urbanisation is encroaching much of their farm land)?
