EfD Nigeria reelects Director for a second term

Dr. Nnaemeka Chukwuone has been elected to serve a second term as the Director of Resource and Environmental Policy Research Center, Environment for Development (REPRC-EfD) Nigeria.

Nnaemeka Chukwuone was reelected through a unanimous voice vote at the Centre's annual general meeting held on February 11, 2021. He has led the Centre since the start in 2018 and has initiated several projects and partnerships.

“This is one of the flagship Centres at our university”, commented Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Professor Charles Igwe who presided over the election.

“I am humbled by the confidence you have in my leadership; I promise not to let you down”, said Nnaemeka Chukwuone.

The Director enters his second term looking forward to improving research outputs from the center and having more fruitful engagements with Nigerian policymakers.

Under his leadership, the Centre, in 2020, organised a very successful webinar on “Low Carbon Climate Resilient Development in Nigeria”. Based on the policy discussions at the webinar, the Centre, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and other stakeholders, is currently working towards developing a Green Growth Strategy for Nigeria.

The Center has also been active in promoting the development of Natural Capital Accounting in Nigeria. In collaboration with the West Africa Regional Platform on Natural Capital and the World Bank, it facilitated the training of government technical staff in Natural Capital Accounting.  The Director said that he is hopeful that the Centre will work with the World Bank as the local technical institution to drive the Natural Capital Accounting project in Nigeria.

Through its regular engagements with policymakers, the Centre has endeared itself to the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Environment. It partnered with the ministry to host the webinar on “Low Carbon Climate Resilient Development in Nigeria”.
