Associate Professor in Environmental and Resource Economics, Whiteknights Reading UK

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor in Environmental and Resource Economics. The appointee will contribute to applied economics research and teaching, including in the broad areas of Environmental and Resource Economics with associated responsibilities relating to administration and outreach.  The ability to engage with on-going research projects and the potential to attract research funding are important. The appointee will be expected to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate applied economics teaching as well as supervision of PhD students within the School. Relevant undergraduate programmes in the School include BSc Consumer Behaviour & Marketing, BSc Food Business Marketing & Economics and BSc Agricultural Business Management. The School teaches Masters programmes in Agricultural Economics, Food Economics & Marketing, Consumer Behaviour and Development Finance.

The appointee will join the Applied Economics & Marketing Department which sits within the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development (SAPD) of the University of Reading.  The School is global in its outlook and has an international reputation for both teaching and research.  It was recently ranked 12th in the World QS subject rankings for Agriculture and Forestry in 2021.  The School has an established reputation for inter-disciplinary research.  Within the University of Reading, SAPD has strong links with the Henley Business School and the Departments of Economics, Geography & Environmental Science and Food & Nutritional Sciences.  The appointee will be expected to engage with other relevant groupings both within the University (e.g. the Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health, the Agriculture & Food Investigation Team, etc.) and externally (e.g. Rural Business Research, Agrimetrics, etc.).  The School provides a welcoming, supportive and progressive environment for career development and consists of a learning and research community from over 75 different nations, was highly ranked in the last REF and prides itself on its multi-disciplinary research and education.

Main duties and responsibilities

•             To engage in research, apply  for external funding as appropriate, and to communicate findings in peer reviewed journals and other outlets.

•             To supervise postgraduate research at doctoral level

•             To supervise short term research projects by taught postgraduate students

•             To teach on and to coordinate teaching of undergraduate and taught master’s modules, according to need

•             To carry out associated responsibilities relating to administration and outreach
