Evaluation of Dry-lands Ecosystem Services in the area surrounding the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa

This project is concerned with identifying, assessing and valuing ecosystem services found on the section of land belonging to the Khomani San contractual park and their farms.

The goal of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is to conserve and enhance their scenic area, ecological integrity of their ecosystems and cultural heritage, and to encourage the public the opportunity to understand and enjoy their special qualities. The local communities’ (Khomani San people) portions of the Park and their communal land produce ecosystem services. An interesting question is whether the local community are aware of the value of ecosystem services on the section of land belonging to them and the implication of these values? Thus this project is concerned with identifying, assessing and valuing ecosystem services found on the section of land belonging to the Khomani San contractual park and their farms - outside of the Park.
