During the first semester of 2019, EfD Colombia co-organized with the Center for the Sustainable Development Goals for Latin America and the Caribbean (CODS) the development and sustainability seminars CODS-EfD. For the first seminar of the semester we received Professor Alex Pfaff as visiting researcher supported by EfD (see the news here).
The second seminar was on February 25th. The speaker was the director of CODS, Alejandro Gaviria, and the title of his talk was “Health in the Sustainable Development Goals”. In his talk, the director of CODS discussed the health challenges of Colombia during the coming years, how these challenges connect to the Sustainable Development Goals and the health improvements that Colombian population has had in the last years. The invited speaker to the third seminar was Torsten Krause, who is Associate senior lecturer at the Lund University Centre for Sustainability in Sweden. This fourth seminar was held on March 21st. The title of his talk was: “Hunting of Forest Fauna in the Amazon – challenges an implications for a more sustainable governance of tropical forests”. In April Professor Antonio Bento from University of Southern California came to the Economics Department at Universidad de los Andes as visiting researcher invited by EfD. Besides the meetings with EfD Colombia researchers, Professor Bento made a presentation at the seminar on April 10th. The title of his presentation was: “A New Approach to Measuring Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation”. It is possible to listen to his talk in English here.
The fifth seminar was on May 6th. In this seminar the invited speaker was Suzi Kerr, Chief Economist at Environmental Defense Fund. The title of her talk was: “Designing an emissions trading system for Colombia”. It is possible to listen to her talk in English here.
