Jianhua Xu is an assistant professor in the Department of Environmental Management, Peking University. She got her PhD in engineering and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University in 2007. Her research interest is in qualitative and quantitative decision analysis and risk analysis related to environmental and energy policy. She has studied how hard decisions can be made under information constraints, and how expert knowledge and public values can be integrated to inform public policies. She is currently doing research on (1) managing risks posed by regional air pollution, and (2) carbon prices and its implication on designing policy instruments to abate greenhouse gas emissions.
