John M. Mutua is currently working with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) of Kenya as a Senior Manager, Economic Regulation. Before he was an Assistant Policy Analyst in the Infrastructure and Economic Services Division at the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA). He holds a Master of Arts in Economics and is currently a PhD candidate at the School of Economics, University of Nairobi. His work involves Economic Regulation in the energy sector specifically in electricity, renewable energy and downstream petroleum. The regulatory aspects include Setting of bulk Tariffs in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), retail electricity tariffs, petroleum product pricing. He is also involved in Energy Planning, Research and Policy Analysis. John has authored papers in renowned journals such as the Energy Policy, Journal of Energy and Development, KIPPRA Discussion and Working Papers as well as the African Economic Research Consortium publications. In addition, he has published book chapters in various publications.
